At KATOA, we seek to respond to our customer’s needs, whether they are companies or individuals, by offering quality indoor, outdoor, and industrial luminaires, with innovative design and cutting-edge technology.
In this article, we present you our new product, WEB, and how it can transform the way you light your spaces.
WEB was inspired by the application of the luminaire since it is placed in the corners of the ceiling, where it is more likely to find cobwebs.
Through the WEB fixture, it is possible to indirectly light conventional brick walls/ceilings, allowing the application of a kind of moldings, and decorative elements placed on the top of the walls or on the ceiling of an environment. The concept is suitable for installation on brick walls, and can also be installed on plasterboard, it is still crucial to fix the driver inside the profile. To ensure durability and luminous flux, LED boards were used.
Once all the components were defined, the piece started to be designed. We came to the conclusion that the best way to build this piece, would be to execute it in two parts. A profile to house all the components to be fixed on the wall and a second part, a kind of diffuser, to hide the components and help in the light distribution.
These two elements “clip” together, a system already well known to us, thus avoiding the use of screws and giving the luminaire a more elegant appearance. By using 3D printing, we made prototypes. This allowed us to test, more easily, different formal approaches, understanding how the light behaved and what was the best angle that the LEDs had to take to allow a good distribution and sweep of the light on the wall/ceiling.

The shape of the LED luminaire ended up undergoing several changes throughout the testing process, as the results were obtained. The compromise between hiding all the components and keeping the piece with relatively small dimensions was one of the biggest challenges.
3D printing was undoubtedly important for this project too because it allowed us to quickly rectify details in the profile and the diffuser to reach the final result. The attachment to the wall also had to be worked on, since we wanted it to happen from the inside of the profile in order not to be visible. For this, it was necessary to scale it to achieve the desired effect. Once the final prototype was made, the piece went on to extrusion in aluminum.
Now, the WEB luminaire is finally ready to illuminate everything and everyone.
