Admittedly, the favorite time to be in the garden is during the day, but that doesn’t stop us from being able to take advantage of this space for activities on hot summer nights as well. To do this, it is important to light it!

  • 1. Type of lighting

There are four types of lighting, depending on their function: access, to direct people, security, to discourage the entry of unwanted people, utility, so that the garden can be used at night, aesthetic, so it can be pleasant to be observed indoors or out. Depending on the type and size of garden, certain types of lighting may be more appropriate.

  • 2. Types of luminaires

Choose LED luminaires over halogen, as LEDs use less energy and have a longer lifetime. It is also important that they are compact and waterproof, with an IP67 or 68 rating. The temperature of the luminaires should be warmer than cold as it gives a softer glow to the garden.

  • 3. Light intensity

The ideal is to distribute the lighting over the different objects in the garden, whether light points to illuminate the trees, or on the ground to create shadows, the important thing is not to have just a strong light spot in a single place in the garden, so that everything is illuminated in a harmonious balance.

  • 4. Have fun!

Taking all this into account, the next step is to have fun choosing how to light your garden. Look for ideas, think about what kinds of activities you would like to do and look for inspiration in other gardens.
